Australia recovers 57,000 weapons through amnesty deal
(MENAFN) By the end of Australia's national gun amnesty in 2017, over 57,000 were declared to have been recovered.
Australia has carried out an amnesty for a period of three months, with the purpose of diminishing the number of illegal weapons through having citizens turn their weapons over with no prosecution.
Law Enforcement Minister Angus Taylor stated "taking these unregistered firearms off the streets means they will not fall into the hands of criminals, who might use them to endanger the lives of innocent Australians."
The amnesty had been carried out as an act against a flood of illicit weapons, along with a response against terrorism risks, as the government declared Australia to have become more secure through the move.
