No one from Daesh flees to Afghanistan: Iraqi envoy

(MENAFN- Pajhwok Afghan News) (Pajhwok): The Iraqi ambassador in on Thursday said Mosul, the second largest city in his country, 'has been converted into a graveyard of Daesh,' spurning possibility of their coming to Afghanistan.
Farazdak Al Ghallie, the Iraqi ambassador to Kabul, told reporters here that Daesh rebels had been crushed in Mosul and all routes blocked by security forces to make sure the militants could not escape.
The Iraqi diplomat was speaking hours after their forces clashed with Daesh militants holding out in Mosul's Old City on Wednesday, more than 36 hours after Baghdad declared victory over the jihadists.
The group tasted the biggest defeat since its lightning sweep through northern Iraq three years ago.
About 900,000 people have reportedly fled the fighting in Mosul, with more than a third sheltered in camps outside the city and the rest living with family and friends in other neighborhoods.
Better known by its Arabic acronym in Afghanistan, the group has been fighting against Afghan forces over the past two years and has so far claimed responsibility for several high profile attacks in Kabul and other provinces.
The Iraqi envoy did not talkabout casualties to either side in the battle for Mosul but accused the Daesh group of using civilians as human shield. He said the Al-Nuri had been destroyed, a place from where the group announced its 'caliphate' two years back.
Earlier, media reports said several Daesh rebels had fled Mosul to other places as defeat was imminent for the group.
