Japan, Russia Foreign Ministers To Meet In Moscow

(MENAFN- Qatar News Agency) Japanese Foreign Minister Fumio Kishida and his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov are set to hold talks Monday, with Japan aiming to make progress over a long-standing bilateral territorial dispute and restart negotiations to conclude a postwar peace treaty.
Japanese officials said that Japan also hopes that the Kishida-Lavrov talks will set the stage for Russian President Vladimir Putin's visit to Japan within the year, according to Japan's (Kyodo)News Agency.
Kishida's four-day trip to Russia comes amid tensions between Tokyo and Moscow over Russian cabinet members' repeated visits to some of the Russian-held, Japanese-claimed islands, which are at the heart of a territorial dispute that has prevented the two countries from concluding a post-World War II peace treaty.
