US economy expands 2.2 percent in Q4

(MENAFN) The US economy expanded at an annual rate of 2.2 percent in the fourth quarter of 2014, unchanged from the second estimate released last month, Xinhua reported.

The GDP growth stays unrevised due to the larger-than-expected increases in exports and personal consumption expenditures and smaller-than-estimated change in private inventories.

The economy grew 5 percent and 4.6 percent respectively in the second and third quarter following a 2.1-percent-decline in the first quarter of 2014, attributed to severe winter weather.

"The general picture of the economy for the fourth quarter remains the same," the Commerce Department said in a report for the final estimate of the US GDP in the fourth quarter.
