Treasures of Oman Roadshowwows children in Muscat, next stop Rustaq


(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) The 'Treasures of Oman Roadshow' which began on Sunday has received good response so far its organisers have said. 

'We've been delighted by the enthusiastic response and reactions of schoolchildren so far' said Fatmah al Mashrafi one of the graduates from the Sultan Qaboos University's (SQU) College of Agriculture and Marine Sciences who is handling the roadshow. 'They've shown great curiosity asked some very intelligent questions and of course they've really enjoyed the activities. I believe that we've sparked some long-lasting interest in our genetic resources.'

An Oman Animal and Plant Genetic Resources Center (OAPGRC) initiative the roadshow was inaugurated by Dr Ali bin Saud al Bemani vice chancellor of SQU in the presence of Dr Hilal bin Ali al Hinai secretary general of The Research Council and other dignitaries.

'This is such a wonderful opportunity to introduce our youth to Oman's fantastic wealth of genetic resources educate them about how important they are for our future and encourage them to get involved in their conservation. Indeed we'd like to think that the roadshow will inspire some of our visitors to think of taking this discipline as a career option' Dr Nadiya al Saady executive director OAPGRC was quoted in a release as saying.

The roadshow will be in Muscat till Thursday and its next stop will be Rustaq.

The uniquely designed adapted and decorated truck has four fun-filled sections - animal plant marine and microbial. The truck will return to Muscat for a grand finale on May 2.

Skorooq al Mahrazi another SQU graduate who is part of the campaign said 'I'm sure many of our young visitors are going to be thinking about getting involved in conserving our genetic resources.'
