Iraqi PM warns of strict sentences on AWOL soldiers

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri Al-Maliki has issued strict sentences - some to the extent of execution - against army and security forces who have abandoned their posts during fierce attacks currently being launched by armed militants across the north. The announcement was made by the premier's media advisor Ali Al-Mousawi after reports that some security personnel abandoned their posts in Mosul, during fierce fighting there that led to the city's province of Nineveh falling completely into the hands of the Al-Qadea-affiliated Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant. Al-Maliki himself had earlier confirmed these reports after a cabinet meeting, vowing to hold those guilty accountable.
