Decent Work Country Program by ILO to focus on Omanisation

(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) The agreement Oman signed with the International Labour Organization on extending the Decent Work Country Programme (DWCP) in the sultanate till 2016 will focus on four priorities, the first being Omanisation.

For the top agenda of Omanisation, the programme will focus on strengthening technical and vocational education and training to enhance the employability of Omanis, especially young women and men, including people with disabilities. The programme will promote a culture of entrepreneurship by creating an enabling business environment, and providing small and medium enterprise support services for youth, said a statement from ILO.

As the second priority, the programme will see effective employment policies supporting productive work in the private sector and decreasing economic dependence on foreign labour.

The third priority will be to strengthen social dialogue processes and mechanisms for the development of social and economic policies. The programme will support the labour administration to enforce the application of the Labour Law in compliance with International Labour Standards and strengthen labour inspection and labour dispute settlement institutions.

Introducing and amending national legislation related to the Unemployment Insurance Fund will form the fourth priority of the DWCP's new phase. Besides the Ministry of Manpower, worker and employer representatives were party to the agreement signed recently on the sidelines of the 103rd International Labour Conference in Geneva.

''Oman is taking steady steps towards consolidating the concept of decent work through activating the partnership between tripartite constituents, to create a work environment that provides greater rights for workers and allows them to fulfill their duties, strengthening their role in contributing to economic productivity,'' H E Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Abdullah al Bakri, Minister of Manpower, said before the signing ceremony.
