Gujarat police on high alert


(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) Even as Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi, who has been high on terrorists' radar since long, said he was saddened by the news of bomb blasts in Hyderabad and condoled the deaths of 14 people, the police in the communally sensitive state have been put on high alert. Director-general of police Chittaranjan Singh told Khaleej Times that all police commissioners and superintendents of police at the district levels had been alerted and they would be carrying out the necessary action. He has also asked the anti-terrorist squad to be in touch with the Hyderabad police to study the blasts and assist them if necessary. The central intelligence bureau has asked the state bureau to work with it to gather inputs. Security forces have been increased at all public places including the bus depots, railway stations and airports. Even at malls and cinema theatres, checking has been initiated as a precautionary measure. A series of 20 synchronised bombings had jolted Ahmedabad within 70 minutes on July 26, 2008, killing 56 people and injuring 250 others. The next day, 24 dud bombs were recovered also in Surat. The city crime branch had cracked the case and found that terror outfit Indian Mujahideen was behind the blasts.
