(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) The Dubai Police have honoured the 12 Thai boys and their coach who were rescued from a cave after being trapped inside for more than two weeks. Unnop Buranasate, Consul General of Thailand to the UAE, received a memento on behalf of the boys and their rescuers from the police's Department of Diplomatic Affairs.
Lt.-Col. Tariq Hilal Al Suwaidi, head of the department, said the honour recognises the bravery of the boys who were rescued from the flooded cave in northern Thailand earlier this month. "Their determination embodies the steadfastness of human beings and their rescue has become a source of inspiration for the world," he said.
The boys - who are members of a junior football team, the Wild Boars - and their coach found themselves trapped on June 23 when they entered the Tham Luang caves after practice and were blocked by floodwaters. All 13 were rescued in a dramatic mission by a team of international experts led by the Thai Navy Seals.
