De Mistura: establishing Syrian constitutional committee talks are constructive


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) GENAVE, June 19 (KUNA) -- UN Special Envoy for Syria Staffan De Mistura said Tuesday that his meetings with high-level representatives from Turkey, Iran and Russia to function a Syrian constitutional committee were "constructive". "The meetings witnessed substantive discussions on related issues, leading to a common ground between the different parties." De Mistura stated. De Mistura expected to invite Turkey and Iran to return to Geneva in the next few weeks to expand the common ground, welcoming the reaffirmation by the three countries of their support United Nations role in facilitating the establishment and functioning of the Constitutional Commission.
UN Special Envoy noted," as the Sochi Final Statement makes clear, besides government and opposition, it will be important that independents, civil society, experts, and women all find their place into this constitutional committee. We must have an inclusive process." (end) ta.aa
