Pakistan- Sikh community moves PHC to get shamshan ghat


(MENAFN- Tribal News Network) PESHAWAR: Sikh community filed a petition at the Peshawar High Court urging the court to direct the government to provide land for Shamshan Ghat where they could cremate their deceased.

The petition, filed by Baba Gurpal Singh, adopted that the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has approved fund for Shamshan Ghat in last budget.

It stated that despite allocation of fund, Ministry of Auqaf and Religious Affairs was not taking steps to construct the place for cremation of their dead. Talking to TNN, Singh said that KP government has allocated fund for construction of shamshan ghat in five districts of the province but so far none could be constructed.

'We take our deceased to Attock for cremation that cost them money,' he added and maintained that there was 60,000 Sikhs living in KP of which 15,000 were in Peshawar.

He said that they filed the petition as citizen of this country and have the right to get land where they could cremate their dead bodies.

On the other hand, Advisor to Chief Minister Ravi Kumar said that work on shamshan ghats was underway for which the government has earmarked Rs30 million.
