Qatar- Festivals for kids begin with fanfare

DOHA: Two exciting festivals for kids opened its doors for public on Wednesday at the Hotel Park opposite Sheraton Hotel. The first editions of the Xtreme Sports Festival (XSF) and the Kids & Schools Edutainment Festivals (KSEF) began from February 28 and runs until March 3, with fascinating and diverse range of info and entertainment.
The launch of both festivals was officially opened by the Director of Private Schools Licensing Department Ministry of Education, Hamad Al Ghali, Raya Services founder and Event partner Yousef Al Jassim, Australian business tycoon Michael Ibrahim, Aqeeq Holdings regional Director Shahid Khan, Food Festival representatives Shama Al Dossari, Aisha Al Tamimi, Four and One Chairman Omran Al Sherawi and Chief Executive Officer Fernando De Guama.
After the inauguration the Australian dignitary Ibrahim commended the event organisers saying, 'It's a great honour to be in Qatar and seeing all these people going about their normal business and enjoying themselves. It really is extremely remarkable.
The XSF, the largest of its kind in Doha, saw young riders from all over the world competing in the opening heats of their discipline that included BMX, skateboarding, roller blading, wakeboarding and general free style maneuvers.
Talking to The Peninsula, Four and One Chairman, Omran Al Sherawi said: ' Four and one company has successfully launched two major Festivals from the beginning of the year. First was CTC (Chocolate tea and coffee), second was Biryani Festival and now merging two festivals together for kids. Fifteen Schools and kindergartens are participating in the festival. Principals of different institutions are present at the festival to meet parents and introduce their syllabus to them.
Chief Executive Officer of Four and One, Fernando De Guama, said: 'The event was postponed due to weather conditions. Now we are back with pleasant weather with two festivals merged together, Xtreme Sports Festival and Kids & Schools Edutainment Festival. More than fifteen schools have registered with us. We have a special green zone for kids where kids can do planting. We have many art activities around as well.
'In Xtreme sports area we have two trainers from South Africa to train kids for skateboarding, cycling and other games. All these activities are free of cost, he said.
The KSEF kept kids busy with more than 35 exhibitors each providing their own unique educational touches including — non-stop readings on multiple stages, cooking demos by celebrity chefs, poetry readings and workshops, panel discussions, walking tours, storytellers, hands-on projects for kids, street theatre, live music, inflatable entertainment and a delicious variety of food and beverages. The four-day event is open from 3pm11pm.
