Winners of Ironman 70.3 crowned in Dubai

DUBAI, 2nd February, 2018 (WAM) -- Britain's double Olympic triathlon champion Alistair Brownlee won a gold medal in the Ironman 70.3 in Dubai, reaching the finishing line at Umm Suqeim Beach in a time of 3:35:32. Germany's Anne Haug secured the title in the women's race after finishing in about 4 hours.

Both winners have taken the first step to winning the Nasser bin Hamad Triple Crown. The remaining two events will take place in Bahrain and South Africa later this year.

H.H. Sheikh Mansour bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairman of the Dubai International Marine Club, crowned the winners of the championship.

The Ironman 70.3 involves a 1.9-kilometre, km, swim, a 90 km bike ride and a 21.1 km run.

Over 2,300 triathletes of various nationalities and ages participated in the 113 km event.
