Chairman of the Commission Mahinda Deshapriya said that the date was decided after extensive discussions.
Deshapriya said that the gazette notice on the date of the elections will be issued on December 26.
The Chairman of the Commission also insisted that the date of the election was not decided as a result of political influence.
Deshapriya also warned that the election laws will be strictly followed during the election period and anyone violating the law will be dealt with.
He said that of a total of 497 nomination lists received 23 had been rejected. Deshapriya said that election laws were followed when rejecting nominations. (Colombo Gazette)
