Qatar- Over 9,000 students visit MME pavilion at Darb Al Saai

The pavilion of the Ministry of Municipality and Environment at Darb Al Saai attracted large number of visitors, especially children.

'The live displays by the Ministry at its pavilion makes it more fascinating. The Ministry tried to give a small image of the Ministry' specialisations through offering live examples to people, said Mohamad Ahmad Bu Hashim Al Sayed, official spokesman of the Ministry present there to guide people through the pavilion.

'It is an interactive participation, we are not only giving people information on how to protect environment or how to plant a tree, rather we are also showing them live examples, he added.

So far, more than 9,000 students from 120 schools visited the pavilion of the Ministry of Municipality and Enviroment at Darb Al Saai.

The Ministry received about 6,000 students on Sunday and over 3,000 yesterday, said the ministry in a release.

The Ministry's participation in Darb Al Saai includes two things: the first is municipal section and the second environment section.

The environment section includes important activities like 'planting station to educate people on agriculture and on how to plant seeds either in their homes or if they have any farms. 'The Ministry is providing all support for agricultural production, livestock breeders, and distributes seedlings, Al Sayed said.

He added that the Minister of Municipality and Environment, H E Mohamed bin Abdullah Al Rumaihi was taking special interest in activities meant to offer this support to achieve food security and self-sufficiency. He said that the ministry had also started implementing four projects three for fish farms and one for shrimp.

To tell visitors about Qatari environment and how to protect it, the environmental section offered live examples of more than twenty types of trees, different types of birds and marine life through offering a number different types of fish.

About the municipal section, it includes activities for visitors especially children and called 'Small Monitor which educates children on how to choose food items fit for human consumption, and which are harmful to human health.

Also, children are being educated on how to become inspectors and how to maintain the food safety. The second activity is 'Minor Engineering activity through which officials are giving some information on how to become engineers. The aim is to encourage children to adopt field of engineering as the country needs such specialists.

Among another important pavilions at Darb Al Saai which attracted more visitors is the Police College pavilion through an activity of the biggest portrait of Emir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani called 'The Dignity Image which was launched by the Police College. So far, more than 4000 people have painted the biggest portrait of the Emir at Darb Al Saai

'The number of people who painted the portrait last evening reached to more than 4000, and it is expected to reach 5500, said Captain Abdurrahman Al Suwaidi.

He said to set a Guinness World Record, more than 14,000 people would be required to paint the portrait. The length of the portrait is 12 metre and its width is 7 metre.

Since Darb Al Saai opened three days ago, all categories of visitors were keen to participate in event, and the participation in painting the image does not take more than 2 minutes, and only one person can paint in one time.

The image has been further divided into parts so that it could be painted simultaneously by maximum. The portrait would then be collected and presented as a gift to H H the Emir from the people as an expression of loyalty.
