World No.43 and top seed Abdulla Al Tamimi of Qatar downed Egyptian Karim El Hammamy in straight games to win the Qatar Circuit No.4 - PSA M15 event - at Doha's Khalifa International Tennis and Squash Complex yesterday.
In the title clash, the 22-year-old Aspire Academy product took just 26 minutes to breeze past the World No.77 winning 11-2, 11-5 11-4.
Tamimi, who said at the start of the tournament that he is looking to be more consistent in the second half of the season lived up to the promise.
In the final, Tamimi started with a flourish taking the first game dropping just two points. In the second, the Cairo based Karim offered a brief resistance but Tamimi made sure he did not lose focus by wrapping up proceedings.
The third game followed the same trend with Tamimi dominating plan and using drop shots to make sure Karim made no late recovery.
The home favourite rounded off proceedings by taking the third game and the title much to the delight of a number of young aspiring squash players who had come to cheer Tamimi, Qatar's first professional squash player.
Tamimi, who said last week that the Qatar tournament will be an ideal preparation for next month's World Championship in Manchester, was happy to win in front of the home crowd, which included his father and elder brother.
'It is always a delight to win before your home crowd. I am happy I have lived up to their expectations. Playing at home brings a certain amount of pressure but overcame that to win the title.
Besides winning the title Tamimi was happy that he was consistent throughout the tournament.
'I have had some bad tournaments and bad matches. I have not been consistent enough. I am happy that I was consistent in this tournament and I wish to carry the consistency in the next events of the second half of the season.
Tamimi said he had imposed a few do's and don'ts himself ahead of the Doha tournament.
'I stopped using social media and cut off from my friends to focus on the tournament.
Tamimi aims to celebrate his title win with his friends for the next couple of days before getting down to serious business of preparing for the World Championship.
'I have one and half week to go before I leave for the World Championship, I will be leaving for England on December 7, so till this time it more hard work and more work on the courts, said Tamimi.
