Involved in a graft probe, Chinese general commits suicide

(MENAFN)Chinese state media said Tuesday that a Chinese general committed suicide after he was exposed as one of the top official involved in President Xi Jinping's anti-corruption campaign.

According to the official Xinhua news agency, Zhang Yang, who was a member of the state's Central Military Commission, was suspected to be connected to two graft-tainted former senior military officers, but he ended up hanging himself on November 23.

President Xi promised during last month's Communist Party congress to strengthen graft crackdowns campaign which has already damaged 1.5 million party officials of various levels- including top military brass- since 2012.

Before the congress, Zhang was also a member of the Communist Party's Central Military Commission.
