(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Muscat- To get more innovations and fresh ideas in the Information Technology (IT) sector, an event titled 'Telecom Innovations Oman 2017 Conference' began at the Crowne Plaza Muscat on Monday.
The two-day event is being held under the patronage of H H Sayyid Fahad bin al Julanda bin Majid al Said, Assistant Secretary General for Innovation Support, The Research Council (TRC).
Rashid bin Abdullah bin Rashid al Alawi, acting director communications and postal affairs in the Ministry of Transport and Communications (MoTC) said, 'We in the information communication technology (ICT) sector are focused on making strategic plans that unite the entire country on common grounds. There are many players in the IT sector and a good plan will help both the private and public sectors in general.'
The conference is being organised under the auspices of MoTC and is being supported by TRC. The conference and exhibition covered topics such as Borderless Broadband, Cloud & Big Data, Connect Everywhere, Internet of Things, Enterprise Mobility, Security & Cybersecurity, Smart Cities, and Satcomm.
Speaking about the Muscat Municipality's smart city project on the sidelines of the conference Dr Ali Amur Ali al Shaidani, director of research centers, TRC said, 'We have chosen Muttrah as the smart city and it is a part of our ambitious masterplan. The first phase will start soon with a hackathon where we shall implement ideas from experts.'
A number of government and non-government stakeholders responsible for development of telecommunications, innovations and information communication technologies that help benefit government, business, education, consumer, youth and children, showcased their commitment and contribution by sharing their vision and strategies at the conference towards achieving a unified goal of Oman National Development Agenda.
