(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) Yet another close advisor to French President Francois Hollande resigned Wednesday under a cloud, after charges are being brought against him for alleged fraud in 2007-2008, the Elysee Palace confirmed.
Faouzi Lamdaoui, a long-time ally of the President and a current close advisor at the Elysee, stepped down Wednesday to address charges that have been brought against him.
He is the fifth close advisor or Minister that worked under Hollande to resign since the Socialist president took power in May 2012.
Three ministers or junior ministers have been forced from office because of financial impropriety allegations and another advisor also left under a cloud.
The most important resignation was Hollande's Budget Minister Jerome Cahuzac, who stepped down over revelations he had an illegal bank account in Switzerland.
This revelation was particularly embarrassing as Cahuzac was charged with eliminating tax evasion and secret accounts in countries like Switzerland, where he maintained an account close to USD 900,000 at the time.
