(MENAFN- Arab Times) A few days after Saudi King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz issued a royal decree to send to prison between three and 20 years any Saudi who fights in conflicts abroad or anyone who financially or morally supports the religious or ideological extremist groups, or any group that has been categorized as a terrorist organization either internationally, regionally or locally, a similar motion has been submitted in Kuwait Parliament by MP Nabil Al- Fadhel, reports Al-Seyassah daily
The proposal of MP Al-Fadhel calls for imprisonment between five to twenty years and a fine of between KD 10,000 and KD 20,000. The proposal calls for punishment for all those who belong to such currents, religious groups or intellectual extremists classified as terrorists, locally, regionally or internationally and for those who support or adopt the ideology and sympathize with such groups or provide them with material or moral support or incite or promote it by saying or writing or any other ways. This came following reports that Kuwait has received information that Saudi jihadists fighting in Syria are planning to make Kuwait their base for fear of the possibility of being prosecuted and imprisoned if found guilty when they return home following the issuance of the royal decree
The sources pointed out, a scheme is being prepared to facilitate the infiltration of fighters from Syria and other countries through a series of covert operations. The sources also said there is danger of these persons posing to the internal front in Kuwait and the possibility of Kuwaitis facilitating the infiltration of jihadists in Kuwait, particularly by people who support them financially
The sources stressed the security agencies have taken this information seriously and have even asked for the names of suspects who are in Syria to pre-empt their efforts to enter Kuwait. The sources disclosed the security pacts signed by Kuwait and Saudi Arabia allows for handing over suspects wanted by respective countries, so there is no possibility of Kuwait becoming a safe haven for these suspects. About the possibility of these persons entering Kuwait on false documents or fake names, the sources said Kuwait has requested from the Saudi security authorities the names and data of the suspects which may help identify them, without disclosing the nature of such data
