Ambassador hosts Omani students going to Germany

(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Muscat- A reception was hosted by H E Thomas Friedrich Schneider, Ambassador of Germany to Oman, last week for 18 Omani students who will leave for Germany in November to study for a bachelor's degree.

The students - four females and 14 males - have been awarded scholarships by Oman's Ministry of Higher Education. They are the 13th batch of Omani students going to Germany under a programme established jointly in 2005 by the Ministry of Higher Education and the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD - Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst).

DAAD will take care of the students after their arrival in Germany. The programme provides an excellent opportunity for graduates from Oman's secondary schools to attend German universities for higher education.

H E Schneider encouraged the students to benefit from the experience of living in a different social and cultural environment.

The students will spend their first year learning the German language. Thereafter they will attend Studienkolleg in the University of Marburg. After passing the Studienkolleg exams one year later, the scholarship holders will be admitted to study at German universities. They may choose among almost 450 state-accredited universities and about 17,500 degree courses.

Over the years, Germany has become a popular destination among international students. More than 12 per cent of students at German universities come from abroad. With a long and famous university tradition, especially in the field of engineering and sciences, a German university degree is highly regarded by employers around the world.

During the entire programme, the scholarship holders are under the guidance of DAAD, providing any kind of support, from visa admission procedures to personal tutoring.
