Israeli Officials Escalate Rhetoric on Lebanon Amid Cross-Border Tensions

(MENAFN) Israeli ministers have issued increasingly hardline statements regarding Lebanon, including calls for strikes on Beirut, territorial occupation, and punitive measures against civilians, according to reports.

During a Security Cabinet meeting, National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir said that Israel should “think outside the box” in its approach to Hezbollah and suggested expanding military operations. He stated: “We must think outside the box regarding Hezbollah, and we should also consider occupying territory and killing many terrorists,” as cited by reports from Israeli media. He also made controversial remarks suggesting “arresting their women and children,” adding, “This is what hurts them most.”

Foreign Minister Gideon Saar accused Hezbollah of attempting to draw Israel into a prolonged “war of attrition,” while other ministers echoed calls for intensified military pressure. Settlement Affairs Minister Orit Strock reportedly supported the idea of occupying territory in Lebanon, and another minister emphasized the need for increased armament.

The remarks come amid ongoing cross-border escalation following a Hezbollah drone attack, with Israeli airstrikes continuing in Lebanon. According to reports, the violence has resulted in thousands of deaths and injuries and displaced over a million people, while further fueling regional instability.

The situation has also contributed to heightened regional tensions, including exchanges of fire involving Iran and Israel. Officials on both sides have warned of further escalation if attacks continue, while diplomatic and military dynamics remain highly volatile.

The statements have drawn attention due to their severity as the conflict between Israel and Hezbollah continues to intensify.
