Amman, May 18 (Petra) – The 2026 General Population and Housing Census's fieldwork phase is proceeding according to schedule and is at an advanced stage of completion, Director General of the Department of Statistics (DoS) Haider Freihat said on Monday.

About 1,400 researchers, supervisors, quality control officers, and monitoring staff are currently working in the field, he said during the periodic meeting of the Census Media Committee.

He said the completion rate has reached 48 percent for buildings and 45 percent for blocks, out of some 24,000 blocks across the Kingdom, a significant portion of which has been finalized after field visits.

The plan, he pointed out, aims to conclude the current phase by early July, clarifying that finalizing the phase means closing all blocks, buildings, and households after the field visits.

Freihat addressed field challenges facing the teams, particularly in densely populated and confined areas or in vast and geographically dispersed regions, but said work is progressing steadily. "What has been achieved so far is quite an accomplishment," he added.

He referred to "a statistical silence period" that follows the data collection phase and precedes the actual counting, adding that its timing is coordinated with other government bodies.

Freihat said data collected is confidential and protected under the General Statistics Law, and that the department is committed to highest technical and technological standards to ensure information security. All data is used for statistical purposes only, in accordance with the governing legislation, he added.
