Moscow Life Span Surges Past Eighty Years

(MENAFN) Moscow achieved a landmark public health milestone in 2025, with residents' life expectancy surpassing 80 years for the first time—the highest rate nationwide—Mayor Sergei Sobyanin announced Monday.

Sobyanin credited sustained progress toward fulfilling Russian President Vladimir Putin's directive to boost nationwide sports participation to 70 percent of the population.

The capital's medical infrastructure has completed sweeping digital modernization while high-tech healthcare enterprises have multiplied across the city, the mayor revealed.

Hospital stay durations have plummeted fivefold thanks to minimally invasive surgical techniques and accelerated patient recovery protocols, elevating care standards to unprecedented levels, Sobyanin stated.

AI-powered diagnostic platforms now serve 74 regions nationwide, delivering complimentary analysis across 60 medical specialties with rapid result turnaround, the mayor reported.

Putin commended Moscow's accomplishment, attributing the longevity gains primarily to the city's healthcare sector advancements.

In December 2025, Sobyanin emphasized that extended lifespans have driven surging healthcare demand, positioning medical services expansion among the city's paramount policy objectives.
