Turkey Launches Nanotech Plant to Boost Water Efficiency in Agriculture
(MENAFN) According to reports, Türkiye has inaugurated a domestic mass production facility for a nanotechnology-based product designed to significantly reduce water consumption in agriculture while increasing crop yields.
The technology, developed by ANT Systems after 15 years of research at Sabancı University’s Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences, is now being produced at an industrial-scale facility in Istanbul with an annual capacity of 3,000 tons, according to reports.
The company’s flagship product, NANOTERN, is described as a biodegradable nanomaterial engineered to retain moisture in soil for extended periods and release it to plants gradually when required.
According to reports, the material is capable of absorbing up to 1,800 times its own weight in water, potentially reducing irrigation needs by up to 50% while increasing agricultural productivity by as much as 25%.
It is also said to improve the efficiency of fertilizers and other agricultural inputs, thereby lowering overall production costs for farmers.
According to reports, NANOTERN is already being used in Türkiye as well as in markets including the United States, South America, Gulf countries, and Africa, while its global patent portfolio remains held in Türkiye.
