Red Warning Issued As Heavy Rains Expected Across Several Areas
According to the department, a low-pressure system located to the northeast of Sri Lanka continues to influence current weather conditions. However, the latest analysis indicates that the system is expected to move away from the island within the next 36 hours.
Very heavy showers of around 150 mm are forecast in parts of the Western, Sabaragamuwa, and North-Western provinces. In addition, heavy rainfall exceeding 100 mm is likely in areas of the Southern Province, particularly in the Galle and Matara districts.
Authorities have advised the public to take necessary precautions to minimize potential damage caused by intense rainfall, strong winds, and lightning associated with thundershowers.
