Pro-Palestinian Demonstrations Held Across Europe on Nakba Anniversary

(MENAFN) Tens of thousands of people took part in demonstrations across several European cities on the 78th anniversary of the Nakba, a term used to describe the displacement of Palestinians during the creation of Israel in 1948.

In Stockholm, large crowds gathered in Odenplan Square following calls from civil society groups, demanding an end to what organizers described as Israeli actions in Gaza Strip.

In Athens, protesters marched toward the Israeli and US embassies, organized by pro-Palestinian and left-wing groups.

Demonstrations were also held in Paris, where speakers addressed the crowd and some activists criticized Israel’s participation in international cultural events, framing current developments in Gaza as a continuation of the Nakba.

In London, police implemented a large-scale security operation as multiple marches took place across the city, including Nakba-related rallies. Authorities deployed thousands of officers along with specialized units to prevent potential clashes between opposing groups.

The Metropolitan Police said the operation included armored vehicles, mounted police, drones, and helicopters as rival demonstrations converged in central areas.

The Nakba, observed annually on May 15, is commemorated by Palestinians worldwide as the mass displacement that accompanied the establishment of Israel in 1948.
