U.S. Turns Down Iran's 14-Point Peace Plan
(MENAFN) The United States has turned down Iran's 14-point peace proposal aimed at bringing the ongoing war to a close, and "has once again reiterated its coercive stance, particularly regarding the nuclear issue," an Iranian daily newspaper reported Friday.
Iran put forward a two-stage negotiation framework, according to the paper. The first phase seeks to halt hostilities across all fronts, while the second phase — contingent on Tehran's conditions being met — would open talks specifically addressing the nuclear issue.
Earlier this month, Iran submitted the 14-point counterproposal to Washington, demanding a permanent cessation of hostilities and a full withdrawal of US forces from the region. The proposal was conveyed through Pakistani intermediaries, offered as a direct response to a nine-point plan previously put forward by the United States.
While Washington's framework calls for a two-month ceasefire, Tehran pushed for a condensed 30-day window to resolve core disputes — firmly insisting that negotiations center on "ending the war" rather than arriving at any temporary or short-term truce arrangement.
