Mass Rallies Across Kingdom Reaffirm Support For Palestinian Rights, Hashemite Custodianship

Amman, May 15 (Petra)-- Large-scale public marches and rallies swept across Amman and other governorates on Friday, with broad participation from popular movements, political parties, trade unions, and civil society organizations, marking the anniversary of the Palestinian Nakba and reaffirming Jordan's steadfast support for the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people and the Hashemite Custodianship over Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem.

In the capital, a massive march set off from in front of Al-Husseini Mosque in downtown Amman following Friday prayer, in response to calls by popular, political, and union groups, alongside civil society institutions. Similar demonstrations and vigils were also held in several areas across the capital, drawing wide public participation.

The rallies underscored support for the resilience of the Palestinian people and their legitimate rights, while renewing public backing for Jordan's firm position on the Palestinian cause.

Participants rejected attempts aimed at displacing Palestinians and liquidating their cause, while emphasizing commitment to the Hashemite Custodianship over Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem and its role in safeguarding the city's Arab and Islamic identity and protecting its sanctities.

Refugee camps across the Kingdom, most notably Talbieh camp, as well as a number of towns and villages, also witnessed similar marches and vigils. Demonstrators waved Jordanian and Palestinian flags and chanted slogans rejecting displacement efforts aimed at undermining the Palestinian cause.

Participants told the Jordan News Agency (Petra) that they take pride in the historic and pivotal role led by His Majesty King Abdullah II in international forums in defense of the Palestinian cause, as well as his continued efforts to halt the aggression against Palestinians and mobilize political and humanitarian support for people in Gaza and the West Bank.

They stressed that the official and popular Jordanian stance reflects the highest levels of solidarity and loyalty toward the Palestinian cause.

Participants also affirmed that the Hashemite Custodianship over Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem represents a key line of defense in preserving the city's Arab, Islamic, and Christian identity and confronting attempts to Judaize the city and erase its historical and religious landmarks.

Speakers at the rallies said the broad participation from various segments of Jordanian society including political parties, professional associations, and civil society organizations reflects the strength of Jordan's internal unity and its collective support for the Hashemite leadership in defending Arab causes, foremost among them the Palestinian issue.

Demonstrators raised Jordanian and Palestinian flags and banners affirming Jordan's unwavering rejection of all forms of aggression, displacement, and resettlement, while expressing loyalty to the homeland and the Hashemite leadership and reiterating continued support for the Palestinian people until they achieve their legitimate rights and establish an independent state on their national soil, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
