Foreign Ministry spokesperson Fouad Majali said Jordan categorically rejects repeated incursions into Al Aqsa Mosque by Israeli ministers, officials, settlers and extremists, as well as measures preventing worshippers from entering the site.
He condemned the actions as“violations of international law and international humanitarian law, warning that they were aimed at imposing“new realities” at the holy site and dividing it temporally and spatially.
Majali warned against the continuation of the“dangerous escalatory violations,” urging the international community to take a firm position and compel Israel, as the occupying power, to halt violations against Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem.
He added that the actions of extremist Israeli ministers reflected policies of the current Israeli government that risk further escalation in the occupied Palestinian territories.
The spokesperson also reaffirmed that the entire 144-dunum area of Al Aqsa Mosque is an exclusive place of worship for Muslims, stressing that the Jerusalem Awqaf Department, affiliated with Jordan's Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs, remains the sole legal authority responsible for administering the site and regulating access to it.
