Poland Signals Readiness for Additional US Forces
(MENAFN) Poland stated on Thursday that it is prepared to accommodate more US troops, after reports emerged that Washington had put on hold a planned military rotation to the country as part of a wider reassessment of US force positioning across Europe.
Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski addressed the matter during discussions on Thursday with US Ambassador to Warsaw Thomas Rose, according to a statement released by the Foreign Ministry.
The ministry indicated that the talks concentrated on the stationing of US forces in Poland as well as cooperation in strategic raw materials and energy initiatives. This included Poland’s goal of establishing itself as a regional liquefied natural gas (LNG) center through the Baltic Eagle Gas Hub initiative.
The meeting took place one day after The Wall Street Journal, Army Times, and Stars and Stripes reported that the US Army had paused a planned rotational deployment of the 2nd Armored Brigade Combat Team from the 1st Cavalry Division to Poland. The operation would have brought in more than 4,000 service members along with military equipment.
According to Army Times, some of the equipment had already been moved to Europe before the deployment was halted.
The Pentagon has not yet officially verified whether the operation has been fully canceled or simply postponed.
