Greece Calls for Sustained Diplomatic Focus on Gaza

(MENAFN) Greek Foreign Minister George Gerapetritis stated on Thursday that the Gaza Strip should continue to be a central priority in diplomatic discussions.

During a press briefing after his meeting with Saudi Foreign Minister Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud, Gerapetritis noted that recent developments in both the West Bank and Gaza were included in their discussions.

“Gaza and the West Bank constitute a single and indivisible territorial entity for the creation of the Palestinian state, through a political process that will lead to a two-state solution, allowing Israelis and Palestinians to live together in peace and security," said Gerapetritis.

He further emphasized that the humanitarian conditions in the region remain a serious concern.

"Gaza must remain at the center of diplomatic interest, with the main priority being the enhanced and unhindered provision of humanitarian assistance to the region, as well as the full implementation of the peace plan and the implementation of the second phase of this plan," he said.

Gerapetritis also expressed support for the recent direct negotiations between Lebanon and Israel held in Washington, describing Lebanon as a key state for maintaining stability in the broader region.

He additionally pointed to the ongoing tensions in the Strait of Hormuz, stressing the necessity of keeping this vital maritime passage open for international trade, energy supply chains, and the stability of the global economy.
