Trump Signals Growing Impatience in Iran Talks

(MENAFN) US President Donald Trump stated on Thursday that his patience is wearing thin regarding the continuing negotiations with Iran.

"I'm not going to be much more patient. No, I'm not. They should make a deal," he told Fox News.

He also implied that Chinese President Xi Jinping favors reaching a diplomatic resolution.

"President Xi would like to see a deal made ... He'd like to see the Hormuz Strait open," he added.

Trump’s trip to China is taking place against the backdrop of escalating tensions in the Middle East, which erupted after US and Israeli forces carried out strikes on Iran on Feb. 28. Those attacks triggered Iranian retaliation targeting Israel and US partners in the Gulf region, as well as the shutdown of the Strait of Hormuz.

An open-ended ceasefire is currently in place.

Beijing has repeatedly urged dialogue and negotiation in the region, while Washington has accused China of providing support for Iran’s military strength and economic resilience.

Trump also remarked that he does not believe China would want Iran to obtain a nuclear weapon.

"Don't go crazy, you don't need them having a nuclear weapon," Trump said he told Xi.

"What did he say?" Fox News anchor Sean Hannity asked.
