Xi, Trump Pledge Greater Cooperation on Global Affairs

(MENAFN) Chinese President Xi Jinping and his American counterpart Donald Trump consented to enhance dialogue and collaboration on international and regional matters during the ongoing Iran conflict, according to China on Friday.

The two heads of state conducted an "in-depth exchange of views" regarding significant matters affecting both nations and the global community, achieving several "new common understandings," a spokesperson for the Chinese Foreign Ministry stated, as reported in an official declaration. The discussions coincided with Trump’s first journey to China by a US president since 2017.

Xi and Trump had also convened the previous year on the margins of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit in Busan, South Korea.

The Chinese leader organized a formal reception ceremony and state banquet for his US counterpart, after which both presidents engaged in discussions and toured the Temple of Heaven on Thursday.

Both sides endorsed a "new vision of building a constructive China-US relationship of strategic stability to provide strategic guidance for China-US relations over the next three years and beyond, promote the steady, sound and sustainable development of China-US relations, and bring more peace, prosperity and progress to the world," the spokesperson explained.

Trump and Xi additionally achieved "important common understandings on handling their mutual concerns in a proper manner," the spokesperson added.
