Severe Weather Kills Dozens of People in Northern India

(MENAFN) According to reports, the death toll from severe weather in India’s northern state of Uttar Pradesh has climbed to 89 following powerful storms that swept across multiple districts on Wednesday.

Officials said the casualties were caused by a combination of strong winds, heavy rainfall, and lightning strikes affecting various parts of the state. The Relief Commissioner confirmed on the US social media platform X that 89 people had died and 53 others were injured due to “adverse weather conditions.”

Authorities added that monitoring efforts are ongoing through direct coordination with district officials to ensure that necessary funds and assistance are made available to affected areas.

Earlier, local officials reported separate fatalities in different districts. In Bhadohi district, 15 people were initially reported dead and eight injured after strong storms brought down trees and electrical poles, according to a senior civil official. In Fatehpur district, another nine people were killed and 16 others injured after a severe storm struck the area.

Emergency response teams continue to assess damage and provide relief in the affected regions.
