Trump, Xi Signal Optimism for Improved US–China Ties During Beijing Summit

(MENAFN) According to reports, US President Donald Trump expressed optimism about the future of relations between the United States and China during a meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping in Beijing on Thursday, saying the two countries are moving toward stronger ties.

Trump told Xi that bilateral relations are expected to become “better than ever before,” adding, “It's an honor to be with you. It's an honor to be your friend, and the relationship between China and the USA is going to be better than ever before.”

The comments came after Xi hosted a formal welcoming ceremony at the Great Hall of the People, where schoolchildren waved Chinese and American flags as the two leaders walked past.

Trump also remarked on the children’s reception, saying, “They were happy, they were beautiful ...Those children were amazing.”

According to reports, this visit marks the first official trip to China by a sitting US president since Trump’s previous visit in 2017 during his earlier term in office.

He added that despite past difficulties, both sides have been able to manage tensions and maintain cooperation. “We've had a fantastic relationship. We've gotten along when there were difficulties, we worked it out,” Trump said.
