Philip Davis Secures Historic Second Term in Bahamas Election
(MENAFN) According to reports, Bahamas Prime Minister Philip Davis has made history by becoming the first national leader in three decades to win a second consecutive term in office.
The snap elections, which were originally planned for October, were brought forward by Davis, reportedly due to concerns about the upcoming hurricane season and amid rising public frustration over economic challenges, insecurity, and shortcomings in healthcare services.
The vote will determine the composition of the 41-seat parliament, contested by the ruling Progressive Liberal Party (PLP), the Free National Movement (FNM), and the Coalition of Independents (COI).
Preliminary results indicate that the PLP secured 25 seats out of an expected 31 projected by exit polls, according to local media, signaling a decisive victory for Davis. The outcome breaks a long-standing pattern in which Bahamian governments typically serve only one term.
In remarks to supporters, Davis said, “The Bahamian people have made their choice. Today, the Bahamian people chose progress. Today, the Bahamian people chose to move forward—forward with our plans, forward with our team, and forward with my leadership.”
