Cambodia, Laos Boost Security Cooperation to Tackle Cross-Border Crime
(MENAFN) Security cooperation between Cambodia and Laos is set to expand following new commitments made on Thursday, according to a statement from the Cambodian prime minister’s spokesperson unit.
The agreement was reached during talks held at the Peace Palace in Phnom Penh between Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet and visiting Lao Minister of Public Security Vanthong Kongmany.
During the meeting, Hun Manet stressed that addressing transnational threats such as human trafficking, drug smuggling, cybercrime, and other forms of cross-border criminal activity requires sustained and close cooperation between the two neighboring countries. He also expressed confidence that security ties between the two ASEAN members would continue to deepen in the future.
For his part, Kongmany stated that the visit was aimed at reinforcing coordination in public security and border management, particularly in border provinces. He added that enhanced cooperation is essential for combating transnational crime and maintaining stability, safety, and public order for people in both countries.
