Türkiye Denies Claims of Political Interference in Somalia
(MENAFN) Türkiye on Wednesday dismissed accusations circulating online that its military presence in Somalia is being used to influence certain political groups or figures within the country.
In a statement shared on the Turkish social media platform NSosyal, the country’s Center for Combating Disinformation said the allegations were “entirely unfounded."
According to the statement, Türkiye’s cooperation with Somalia has long been carried out legally and in coordination with Somalia’s federal government, with the stated goal of supporting the country’s security, institutional development, and overall stability.
"Türkiye’s military presence and training activities in Somalia are directed toward restructuring the Somali National Army, modernizing security institutions, and improving counter-terrorism capabilities," the statement said.
Officials also emphasized that Turkish military personnel are not involved in Somalia’s elections or domestic political affairs in any way.
The statement further reaffirmed Ankara’s support for Somalia’s democratic process and stressed that Türkiye respects both the country’s sovereignty and the decisions of the Somali people.
