Russia Claims Ukraine Breached Victory Day Truce Thousands of Times
(MENAFN) Russia’s Defense Ministry has accused Ukrainian forces of violating a temporary Victory Day ceasefire more than 16,000 times since it came into effect on Friday, according to statements cited in reports.
The ministry said Ukrainian military operations included drone and artillery strikes targeting areas it described as civilian infrastructure in several Russian regions, including Crimea, Belgorod, Kursk, Kaluga, Rostov, and Krasnodar. Regional authorities in Belgorod reported injuries to civilians, including a teenager, following drone attacks.
According to the Russian Defense Ministry, Ukrainian forces also carried out hundreds of artillery and rocket strikes against military positions, along with thousands of drone operations and multiple attempted assaults on Russian-held positions.
In total, the ministry claimed more than 16,000 ceasefire violations, stating that its forces responded only by striking military targets such as firing positions, drone launch sites, and command centers.
It also asserted that Russian troops continued to observe the ceasefire and remained in their previously held positions.
The ceasefire was announced by Russia last week to mark the 81st anniversary of Victory Day commemorations. It was initially set to expire on Sunday but was reportedly extended for two additional days following a proposal attributed to US President Donald Trump.
