Romanian Government Falls After Parliamentary No-Confidence Vote

(MENAFN) According to reports, Romania’s prime minister Ilie Bolojan has been removed from office after parliament approved a motion of no confidence against his government.

Lawmakers passed the motion with a significant majority, bringing an end to the current administration following mounting political tensions. The vote came after growing divisions within the ruling coalition, which had weakened in recent weeks.

As stated by reports, Bolojan rejected the accusations behind the motion, describing it as “false, cynical and artificial,” and argued that governments facing multiple challenges should focus on stability rather than political upheaval.

The opposition effort was reportedly driven in large part by the Social Democratic Party, which joined forces with the Alliance for the Union of Romanians to submit the motion.

Reports indicate that tensions escalated after former coalition partners began distancing themselves from the government, with some ministers resigning, ultimately contributing to the collapse of the ruling alliance.

Bolojan also criticized his political rivals for undermining the government without presenting a clear alternative plan for leadership, highlighting the uncertainty surrounding the country’s next political steps.
