A Convoy to the Blue Nile... Ongoing Support for the Battle of Dignity

Calls for the Government to Move from Promises to Real Empowerment

Khartoum (Sudanow) - In a move reflecting the cohesion of the internal front and the continuation of popular support, the Sudanese Women's General Union intends to dispatch a major support convoy to the Blue Nile region, with participation from nine states. This comes as part of its ongoing efforts to support the armed forces and regular forces in the Battle of National Dignity. The convoy aims to provide logistical and moral support to fighters on the front lines, in addition to delivering humanitarian aid to families affected by the war, in a message affirming that Sudanese women remain at the heart of the battle, present through action and generosity.

The Battle for Survival:

Since the outbreak of the war, Sudanese women have been the most affected, finding themselves in a harsh confrontation with loss and deprivation. Many have lost a husband, son, brother, or even a father. In many cases, women suddenly became the sole providers for their families. This harsh transformation pushed thousands of women into the labor market under extremely difficult conditions, whether inside Sudan, in displacement areas, or in neighboring Arab and African countries, where entire families sought refuge in search of safety. Amid the burdens of daily life and the bitterness of loss, women have continued to endure, preserving family cohesion in the face of collapse.

Violations and Tragedies:

The suffering of Sudanese women has not been limited to economic or social loss but has extended to grave violations of human dignity. Several regions, especially in Darfur, have witnessed horrific crimes against women, including cold-blooded killings and killings under torture, in addition to rape, abduction, enslavement, and even the sale of women in slave markets inside and outside the borders. These scenes recall some of the darkest chapters in human history. Furthermore, many women have endured compounded tragedies when forced to witness the killing of their family members in cold blood, turning memory into an open wound that never heals.

From Pain to Hope:

Despite the harsh reality, Sudanese women have not retreated into their wounds. Instead, they have become key actors in supporting both the war effort and humanitarian work. The Sudanese Women's General Union has provided extensive and continuous support to the armed forces through organizing support convoys carrying food, medicine, and clothing, and launching initiatives such as the“Soldier's Kit.” It has also established charitable kitchens to provide meals, especially during the month of Ramadan. Support has extended to war wounded through care and assistance in military medical hospitals, and the formation of voluntary women's groups near combat zones. Moreover, women themselves have mobilized, taken up arms, and fought alongside men in battlefields such as El Fasher and Al Dilling. On the moral front, women have played a prominent role in boosting morale through media campaigns and supportive statements, as well as participating in training camps and preparedness efforts to defend the nation. These efforts have also included a developmental dimension, as the Sudanese Women's General Union launched programs for women's economic empowerment, such as the“Rural Women Award” and cultural creativity festivals supporting peace, as a proactive attempt at reconstruction even before the war ends.

Recognition and Political Support:

In recognition of these efforts, a delegation from the Sudanese Women's General Union met with Transitional Sovereignty Council member Dr. Nawara Abu Mohammed, who praised the significant role played by women in supporting the armed forces and allied forces. During the meeting, she reviewed the programs and projects implemented by the union to promote stability and reinforce the values of peace. The union's president, Professor Ahlam Mohamed Ibrahim, explained that the meeting included support for sponsoring the Women's Cultural Creativity Festival for Peace, as well as arrangements to launch the“Rural Women Award.” She also revealed preparations for dispatching the Blue Nile convoy, with broad participation from Sudanese states, reaffirming the continuity of women's contributions.

The Responsibility of the State:

Observers agree that Sudanese women's determination to rally around the armed forces is not merely an emotional response, but a strategic choice rooted in a deep awareness that state stability is the primary guarantee of personal and family security. Women, who have paid the highest price of the war, understand that the collapse of institutions leads to the expansion of violations. However, this role, despite its importance, places a major responsibility on the government, which must move from praise to real empowerment by enacting policies that protect women from violence, provide genuine economic opportunities, and ensure their effective participation in decision-making, particularly in peace and reconstruction processes.

An Important Conclusion:

Between support convoys and tears of loss, Sudanese women paint an exceptional picture of resilience. They are not only victims of war, but partners in confronting it, pillars in its struggle, and makers of hope for a future taking shape amid the ruins. The convoy that the Sudanese Women's General Union intends to send to the Blue Nile region stands as a powerful message that this nation, despite its wounds, still finds in its women enough strength to rise again.
