US Approves Nearly USD1 Billion Weapons Sale to Israel
(MENAFN) The US State Department announced on Friday that it has authorized a potential transfer of the Advanced Precision Kill Weapon System (APKWS) along with associated equipment to Israel. The proposed deal carries an estimated value of $992.4 million, according to an official statement.
It stated that "The proposed sale will improve Israel’s capability to meet current and future threats, strengthen its homeland defense, and serve as a deterrent to regional threats. Israel will have no difficulty absorbing these articles and services into its armed forces," it added. The main contractor for the agreement is expected to be BAE Systems based in New Hampshire, United States.
The United States has faced persistent criticism for its military backing of Israel during its war in the Gaza Strip, where more than 72,000 people—primarily women and children—have been killed since October 2023. Although a ceasefire was reached in October 2025, violations have continued to occur frequently.
Meanwhile, several members of the US Congress have called for an end to weapons transfers to Israel, accusing Washington of being complicit in the conduct of the war in Gaza.
