Moldova Ends Energy Emergency, Moves to Alert Phase
(MENAFN) Moldova’s parliament has approved the termination of the state of emergency in the country’s energy sector, with the decision set to take effect on April 25, according to an official statement released Friday.
As stated by reports, authorities explained that once the emergency period ends, a 60-day state of alert will be introduced to ensure continued oversight of energy supplies. The measure is intended to enable rapid response mechanisms to safeguard electricity and petroleum availability as risks evolve.
The emergency status had been declared on March 25 for a 60-day period after damage to the Vulcanesti–Isaccea power line, a key electricity transmission route. The disruption was linked to Russian strikes on civilian energy infrastructure in Ukraine, which affected regional energy stability.
During the same timeframe, Moldova also experienced temporary disruptions in petroleum product supplies, particularly diesel, amid broader tensions affecting global energy markets, including developments in the Middle East.
Officials said that throughout the emergency period, efforts were made to restore the damaged electricity line while maintaining stable power distribution to consumers.
The government also implemented support measures for businesses involved in the fuel sector, aimed at stabilizing supply chains, reducing market volatility, and preventing major interruptions in availability.
