Damascus Meeting Addresses Ongoing Regional Issues

(MENAFN) Syrian President Ahmad al-Sharaa met with Lebanese Druze leader Walid Jumblatt in Damascus on Saturday, where the two figures exchanged views on current developments across the region.

The discussions were held at the People’s Palace in the Syrian capital, as stated by reports. No further details were disclosed, with reports noting only that the meeting focused on “the latest developments in the region.”

There was no information provided regarding the timing of Jumblatt’s arrival in Syria or the expected length of his stay.

Jumblatt, who previously headed the Progressive Socialist Party, was among the earliest political figures to travel to Damascus after the removal of Bashar al-Assad’s government on Dec. 8, 2024.

He had also met Sharaa earlier on Dec. 22, during the period when Sharaa was leading Syria’s transitional administration. At that time, Jumblatt expressed a desire to see “Syrian-Lebanese relations return to their natural course,” according to reports.
