Sweden's Flexible Funding Boosts UNICEF's Lifesaving Response For Children In Pakistan
The Sweden has contributed $4.17 million in flexible funding to UNICEF to support its 2026 Humanitarian Action for Children appeal in Pakistan, aimed at delivering urgent assistance to vulnerable children and families.
The contribution, made through the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency, will enable UNICEF to respond swiftly to climate-related and other emergencies, ensuring access to critical services including health, nutrition, education, child protection, and water and sanitation.
UNICEF Representative in Pakistan, Pernille Ironside, said flexible funding is vital in a country where children face multiple risks such as climate shocks, displacement, and malnutrition. She expressed gratitude to Sweden for its continued support in reaching the most vulnerable communities.

In 2025, UNICEF, with Sweden's backing, responded to flood emergencies in provinces including Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab, while also assisting communities in Balochistan and Sindh. Over 400,000 people received essential services, while around 25,000 children and caregivers benefited from mental health and psychosocial support programmes.
Alexandra Berg von Linde, Ambassador of Sweden to Pakistan, said the country's humanitarian support is rooted in strengthening people's resilience and enabling them to shape their futures.
Pakistan continues to face serious challenges, with 40 per cent of children under five suffering from stunting, 66 per cent exposed to water scarcity, and high infant mortality rates. Emergencies further limit access to essential services, increasing risks for children.
UNICEF said continued support from partners like Sweden will help expand treatment for severe acute malnutrition and strengthen integrated services, contributing to improved child survival and overall wellbeing across the country.
