Trump Expresses Optimism on Negotiations with Iran

(MENAFN) US President Donald Trump said Sunday he remains optimistic about negotiations with Iran, stating he sees “a very good chance” of reaching a final agreement.

Speaking to a news outlet, Trump said, "The concept of the deal is done. I think we have a very good chance to get it completed."

The talks are expected to be held Tuesday in Islamabad and could continue into Wednesday, according to comments Trump made to media. A White House official told a news agency that Vice President JD Vance, along with envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, will travel to Pakistan for the discussions.

However, Iran has not confirmed participation. A semi-official news agency reported that Tehran is not expected to send a delegation while the US naval blockade remains in place.

Iran’s state news agency criticized Washington’s position, describing US demands as "excessive, unreasonable, and unrealistic." It also accused the United States of frequently changing its stance and maintaining "contradictory stances" throughout the negotiations.

“Under these conditions, there are no clear signs of fruitful negotiations,” the report said.

Shipping activity through the Strait of Hormuz has been heavily disrupted since the US-Israeli military campaign against Iran began on Feb. 28. The situation escalated further after the US announced a formal naval blockade on April 13.
