Pakistan Briefs Iran on Diplomatic Outreach Ahead of Possible US Talks

(MENAFN) Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif held a phone call on Sunday with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, updating him on recent diplomatic efforts and outreach to global leaders ahead of a potential second round of US–Iran talks in Islamabad.

According to a statement from the Prime Minister’s Office, Sharif discussed his recent visits and engagements with leaders from Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and Türkiye as part of broader efforts to support a negotiated settlement to ongoing regional tensions in the Middle East.

He described these discussions as helpful in building support for sustained dialogue and diplomacy aimed at achieving long-term stability in the region. Sharif also expressed appreciation for what he called constructive exchanges between Iranian officials and Pakistan’s military leadership during a recent visit by Pakistan’s army chief General Asim Munir to Tehran.

The statement said the conversation between the two leaders was warm and lasted around forty-five minutes, during which they reviewed the regional situation in detail.

Sharif also thanked Iran for sending a high-level delegation to earlier US–Iran discussions held in Islamabad on April 11–12, as diplomatic efforts continue toward arranging further negotiations.
