Trump Advisers Have Restricted Live Updates During Iran Rescue Operation

(MENAFN) US President Donald Trump was reportedly kept out of real-time updates during a sensitive military rescue operation involving American airmen inside Iran, with advisers choosing to inform him only at critical junctures, according to a Wall Street Journal report citing a senior administration official.

The report said Trump’s advisers intentionally limited live updates in the situation room, believing his impatience could interfere with operational decision-making. Instead, he was briefed at what officials described as “meaningful moments.”

According to the account, one downed airman was recovered quickly, but Trump was not informed of the successful extraction of a second service member until later on Saturday. The delay, the report suggested, helped avoid what some officials viewed as a potentially politically damaging moment.

The US military’s Central Command, US Central Command, confirmed that two service members were recovered after their F-15E jet was shot down by a shoulder-fired missile on April 2.

The report also described internal decision-making during the episode as improvised and unstructured. It claimed that after the rescue, Trump posted an Easter message that included a warning toward Iran and the phrase "Praise be to Allah," and told an adviser he wanted to appear “as unstable and insulting as possible” in order to pressure Tehran.

It further stated that a separate remark attributed to Trump—“a whole civilization will die tonight”—was not part of any formal security briefing process, but rather an improvised statement aimed at coercing Iran into negotiations, according to the report.
