Iran Conditions US Talks on Lifting Naval Blockade
(MENAFN) Iran has not made a final decision on sending a negotiating delegation to Islamabad, stating that discussions with the United States will not proceed while a naval blockade remains in place, according to reports citing a news agency.
As stated by reports, communication between Iran and the US has continued in recent days through a Pakistani intermediary following the first round of negotiations held last weekend.
These exchanges are described as a continuation of the same diplomatic channel used previously.
The report added that Iran’s negotiating position is that no talks will take place as long as US President Donald Trump maintains the declaration of a naval blockade on Iran.
Earlier, a White House official told another news agency that US Vice President JD Vance, along with special envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, are expected to travel to Islamabad for negotiations with Iran.
According to reports, Trump told a media outlet that meetings are scheduled for Tuesday in Islamabad and could continue into Wednesday.
Shipping activity through the Strait of Hormuz has reportedly been severely disrupted since the outbreak of conflict between the US, Israel, and Iran on February 28. A US naval blockade was later announced on April 13, further escalating tensions in the region.
